Materials Informatics and the Future of R&D: Applying AI to Composite Materials and Manufacturing

Materials Informatics and the Future of R&D: Applying AI to Composite Materials and Manufacturing, Conference Keynote, JEC World 2018, Dayton Horvath
Synopsis: Artificial intelligence software techniques are now helping disciplines inform, optimize, and create tomorrow’s products and services. These algorithmic approaches are changing how decisions are being made in the research lab and all the way to the manufacturing floor. Every discovery, product development cycle, and manufacturing process is based on available information and constrained by available resources that would benefit from additional insights and better optimizations. In this talk, Materials informatics technologies will be introduced, industry challenges examined, case studies presented to illustrate how the composites industry is changing, and what actions can be taken to benefit from those changes.
